米国・アリフォルニア州で地下水汲み上げによる大規模な地盤沈下が発生中？

土壌や地殻中の水分が大規模に失われると全体の重量が少しずつ減少する。すると，地殻を押さえつけている全重量が全体として減少することになるので，地殻変動にも深刻な影響を及ぼし，超大規模地震が発生する根本原因となり得るのではないかと考える。

それでなくてもカリフォルニア州には巨大な断層が南北に走っており，巨大地震がいつ発生してもおかしくない構造をしている。
