農作物のジャガイモの絶滅危惧？

ジャガイモなどのナス科植物は，基本的には有毒植物だ。人類は，選抜による改良により，毒性の少ない品種をつくってきた。それでも，ジャガイモの新芽に毒があることはよく知られており，新芽を切り取り丁寧に水洗しないといけないということは常識の一部となっている。

しかし，そのようにして毒性の弱い個体を選抜し続けた結果，菌類や昆虫その他の土中微生物にとっても毒性の弱い品種が生き残ることになった。

結論は明快で，毒性の弱い品種はいずれ菌類その他の土中微生物によって絶滅させられる可能性が高い。

ジャガイモに限らず，他の農作物でも基本的には同じだ。

このように書くと，「だから遺伝子組換えが必要だ」と主張する者が当然出てくる。

その主張が理論的には成立しないということはこのブログでは論じない。論文ではない。

私がどのように批判しようとも遺伝子組換え作物は繁殖を続けることになるだろう。もちろん毒性がある。遺伝子組成上，その毒性に耐えられないタイプの人々は，何億人か亡くなることになるかもしれない。

そうやって淘汰されることになるのだが・・・遺伝子組換えの目的とは全く無関係のところから菌類やウイルス等が進化し，農作物を全滅させるという流れをとめることはできない。

唯一の解決策は，現在のような金銭的利益追求を第一の目的とする資本的農業生産をやめ，日本の中世の農業や英国・欧州の中世の農業と同じような手間のかかる農法，すなわち，連作せず，しばしば休耕するというやり方に戻すしかないと思われる。

異なる作物を植えることにより，土中の環境が変化し，特定のバクテリア，菌類，ウイルス等が繁殖し続けるという流れを止めることができる。

金儲けには相反する考え方だが，人類を絶滅から救う考え方の一つだという点について異論はないだろうと思う。

なお，あまり報道されていないが，中国以外の国でも，中国企業が進出して工場を建設・運営しているところでは，かなりひどい汚染問題が発生している。北半球だけの問題ではない。
