ボーイング787に搭載されていたコバルト酸リチウム（lithium-cobalt oxide）電池は，携帯電話等での利用では問題が少ないが航空機への利用には不適との見解

携帯電話やPC等で用いられている場合でも，加熱等が問題になることがある。

飛行機に搭載されている電池は大型なので，小型のバッテリーでも起きる得ることがもっと大規模に発生すると考えれば良い。

携帯電話やスマートフォン等では，事故の発生を防ぐため，電池を充電する際にはスイッチをオフにすることが推奨されている。しかし，旅客機ではそういうわけにはいかない。電源を切ると，機内清掃も点検も何もできなくなってしまうので，充電中だからといってスイッチオフにするわけにはいかないのだ。充電中にスイッチオフにしてしまうと，かなり長時間のアイドリング時間が発生し，収益を圧迫することになる。

結局，収益重視で，機材を徹底的に酷使するということを禁止でもしない限り，別のタイプのバッテリーと交換してもやはり同じようなことが発生し得ると言える。

要するに，問題はバッテリーにあるのではなく，航空会社の収益重視というビジネスモデルそれ自体にある。

そして，そのようなタイプを更に抽象化・一般化して表現すると，やはり「最適化」の結果だと言わざるを得ない。このことは，1997年に公刊した著書で既に指摘したとおりだ。

さて，そこで疑問に思ったのだが，核爆弾等を搭載したロボット爆撃機（ドローン）内には同じタイプのバッテリーが搭載されていないのだろうか？

バッテリーに着目する限り，今後は最高レベルでの化学の分野の研究者を総動員して検討すべき必要がある。しかし，それだけでは足りない。人間系の攻撃と関連する領域に関する極めて優れた研究者や捜査官等の協力が必要だ。
